A youth leader from the Jubo Dal, Rokon Sardar, has been arrested by the police for forcefully cutting agricultural land and constructing fish farms. The incident took place in Shariatpur on Monday (March 3, 2025), and the information was confirmed by Palang Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Helal Uddin.
Rokon Sardar, the organizational secretary of the Jubo Dal in Shariatpur Sadar Upazila, has been accused of illegal land grabbing and construction of fish farms using his influence in various areas of Shariatpur for a long time.
Recently, in the last few days, Rokon Sardar allegedly used multiple excavators to cut rice fields in Patanigaon village of Palang Union in Sadar Upazila without consulting the landowners. Earlier, complaints had been filed with the Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer’s office, and after an investigation, the excavator was seized and a fine was imposed on him.
Following repeated complaints from the affected farmers, who reported the issue to the district and upazila administration, the police arrested Rokon Sardar.
Palang Model Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Helal Uddin, confirmed the arrest, stating, "Rokon Sardar has been arrested for the illegal excavation of agricultural land. He will be presented in court."
Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer, Ilora Yasmin, also mentioned, "Rokon Sardar had been fined and his excavator was seized earlier for cutting agricultural land in Patanigaon village to create a fish farm. However, he continued the same activity. Legal action is being taken against him."
